Samenvatting

The first navigation system was introduced in the market nearly 15 years ago and it encompassed dead reckoning unit combined with a digital map matching. Since then, the system has improved in accuracy (from the introduction of GPS and detailed mapping) and the velocity of route calculation (through improvements in computer power) until the current stage with the latest versions of products. Communications are going to play a major role in development of the next generation of Navigation systems. This paper will outline the present solution and new emerging technologies in data transmission such as DAB. TPEG, and GSM-SMS. (A)
