The Navy Alcohol Safety Action Program (NASAP). Profile of a winner- and still scoring. Presented at the National Council on Alcoholism National Conference Labor- Management Forum, Washington, D.C., April 30, 1979.

Since the Navy Alcohol Safety Action Program (NASAP) was introduced in 1973, more than 28 000 persons have been referred to NASAP. There are five co- supporting factors which have enabled NASAP to become the most successful, large scale occupational alcoholism prevention program: (1) an early, congruent definition of prevention (2) a focus on . attitude change vice behaviour modification (3) a complete and comprehensive occupational program design (4) a stress on the concept of positive role modelling, and (5) a blend of career staff and university associates with a shared understanding that each person is part of the whole.
