The aim of the study presented in this poster, was to subject two different mathematical neck models, namely a multi body system (MBS) and a finite element (FE) model, to a range of crash pulses representing low speed rear-end impacts, all leading to the same delta V (velocity change, 4 m/s). The kinematic responses were compared and the ability of the models to calculate different neck injury criteria was assessed. The influence of the simulation method used on the results of the injury criteria was demonstrated. Before subjecting to a range of acceleration pulses, both models were first validated against volunteer data.
