Changes in urban mobility call for a reflection on urban transport supply. Based on this statement, am overview is provided of the European development of non-mechanically guided peoplemovers (automated transport) and, in between, an answer is given to the question which role in these developments is played by the Netherlands. Centre oriented transport, emilioration of obstacle detection and energy supply, and a first step for certification of vehicles, are paving the way for real life applications. In favour of the urban area that is willing to meet the challenge and establishes the next demonstration site, this paper concludes with a list of success factors. (Author/publisher)
