Finding good examples of transport policy outside the Netherlands resulting in less private car usage was the purpose of an international transport policy benchmark by which we can contribute in finding effective and efficient policy measures for the Netherlands: can these foreign `best practices' also be realised in the Netherlands and if so, under which conditions? For five different policy themes 3-5 foreign (i.e. outside the Netherlands) cases were selected, amongst others the UK, Germany, Switzerland, France, USA, China and Japan. For each of these cases, the effects on mobility, economy and sustainability were analysed, as well as the chances of success or failure. Also, the question whether or not such a policy could be implemented in the Netherlands was dealt with.
