Samenvatting
This report presents a systematic description of the personal mobility patterns of the Netherlands. The report starts with a brief description of the societal background relevant to transport and mobility. Items dealt with are geography, population, labour market and the economy. Then, the characteristics of the transportation system are described briefly, including car ownership. The core of the report refers to the mobility characteristics as trip rates and distances travelled by purpose and by mode. Special attention has been paid to interurban travel. The report concludes with a description of the institutional context of transportation planning in the Netherlands.
