Applying a quality check to networks has obvious similarities with undergoing a body check in a medical consultation. In line with this analogy TNO has developed an approach, the Networkdoctor, which is perfectly geared to the checks of a number of regional networks, as proposed by the Dutch Ministry of Transport. In order to be able to realize formulated network qualities the Networkdoctor supports the stepwise design and formulation of a treatment. However, the Networkdoctor is not a standard approach; characteristic for the approach is the smart application of 4 state-of-the-art transport models, each model exhibiting particular features. Depending on the nature of the questions that have to be answered (problems that have to be dealt with), a selection of (sub)models will be applied. Also characteristic for the approach is the continuous, open dialogue between client(s) and consultant which will have a positive impact on the quality of the diagnoses of the problems as well as the treatment.
