Samenvatting

Traffic demand management is perhaps the best policy to tackle the challenges of the climate, congestion and decreasing competitiveness of public transport. Demand management has traditionally been considered as a separate selection of transport policy means. In this paper it will be presented that demand management should rather be considered as a philosophy that runs through the whole selection of activities that national road administrations are responsible for. The paper presents, how it is possible to practice demand management in coordinated land-use planning, transport pricing, mobility management, traffic management and information and smaller and larger investments to transport infrastructure.
