This paper deals with a study directed to shortening the time interval in which emergency services are warned via the incident rooms immediately after an incident has occurred on the Dutch arterial road system. While currently most reports of incidents are made by cellular phones or highway emergency telephones, there appear to be elements in this phase that can conspire to impede rapid response. The paper focus on location marking as being an important tool when providing information on the correct position for the purpose of Incident Management. (A)
