Most of the accidents involving pedestrians occur in built-up areas, usually when pedestrians cross the road. In this project observations are made at crossings in order to study the cause of these accidents. The results from the studies of behaviour, pedestrian volume, car volume, level of speed and level of danger at the crossing are discussed. The observations are made at major roads and collector roads with either central isles or narrowings. A model of the encounter-situations pedestrian/car driver is also presented.
