For Motor Co. researchers have developed an analysis of tire tread wear based on new techniques. This basic guide describes the nature of grip and friction, the role of pavement surface texture, and the mechanics of abrasive wear. A mathematical approach for predicting tread wear for a wide variety of materials, constructions, and operating conditions is also presented.
