ITS Bretagne is a cluster created on 15 November 2006 in the Brittany region in France. ITS Bretagne gathers together research centres, universities, companies and SMEs and local government. This initiative is supported by the central government. Companies range from the car industry to telecom infrastructure managers and SMEs specialised in ITS. Nine local authorities are supporting and financing the cluster which counts 40 members. The cluster was created by local government in order to support the development of research and demonstration of ITS on the roads and in public transport. ITS is a political priority in Brittany as many large and medium size companies already work in this field, but do not have full access to research and test sites. The aim of the cluster is therefore to support political commitment with better research and demonstration capacities and to make ITS a tool not only for safer roads, more efficient public transport but also for supporting local economic development.
