Samenvatting

With the new system of financial equalisation and allocation of tasks between the federal government and the cantons (NFA) in Switzerland, the main competencies and responsibilities relating to Switzerland's National Road Network NRN will shift from the cantons to the federal government in 2008. Within the scope of the "Swiss Traffic Management" (TM-CH) project, various scenarios were examined with the aim of choosing the best solution for ensuring the transfer of responsibility to the federal government on 1.1.2008. The purpose of the TM-CH sub-project on "Swiss Traffic Information" (TI-CH), is to guarantee an optimal solution for traffic information. On 1.1.2008, responsibility for traffic information and traffic management on Switzerland's NRN will be transferred to the federal authorities. The aim of the "Swiss Traffic Information" (TI-CH) concept is to ensure that the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) will be able to readily implement the necessary measures for ensuring that the federal government can assume its new responsibilities as of 1 January 2008. The objective was therefore to identify both the best possible long-term solution, as well as a suitable short-term solution that can be implemented quickly and effectively. The overall plan thus calls for the definition of a basic solution for implementation in 2008 that will then be developed into a definitive structure for 2012 and beyond. The findings and measures of the TI-CH sub-project will form the basis for service level agreements from 2008 onwards, and for other measures to be introduced by FEDRO.
