This contribution describes current developments in The Netherlands' policy for the reduction of pollution due to motorized road traffic (including freight transport). Particular attention is paid to the reduction targets contained in the National Environmental Policy Plan 1990-1994 (NMP), the three-track approach to traffic pollution - including management of traffic demand - and the integrated traffic and environmental policy measures presented in the Second Transport Structure Plan (SVVII). In the final part of the paper attention is focused on road freight and transport policy.
