Samenvatting

A control concept for inter urban highway which proposed the use of non-linear filtering and programming techniques is tested by simulation. Cars and trucks are treated as separate, but interacting components of the traffic system streams and the control inputs are assumed to be ramp metering and speed control. Simulation results indicated that the proposes control concept would maintain flow conditions during peak demand whereas, without control, congestion would occur.
