Samenvatting

In response to the need to reduce, re-use and recycle waste materials, a new, cost-effective paver composed entirely of recycled materials has been invented. Details of the new material and of its manufacture are presented. Physical and mechanical properties of the new material have been assessed by laboratory testing and show the material to be considerably stronger and less temperature susceptible than hot-mix asphalt. The new pavers have been subjected to repeated loading in laboratory scale test pavements. Data from these tests are presented. They have shown that, as a result of the manufacturing process and the lack of brittleness of the new material, advantageous modifications to conventional small element paving technology appear possible. The first full-scale pavement surfaced with the new material has been constructed in Mississauga and its performance under traffic is being constructed. (A)
