The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) has implemented two new instruments for speed management on the Norwegian state road network: (1) A new method to identify and select road sections where a reduction of the speed limit should be carried out, due to high "accident seriousness density" (ASD). (2) New digital cameras for automatic speed control. The first part of this paper describes and discusses the first version of the new method based on "accident seriousness density", and the first application of this method, which took place during Autumn 2001. A further development of this method is still taking place, and the elements in this development are also presented. The second part of the paper describes the new digital cameras, the planned application of these cameras, and the new possibilities in automatic speed control arising from this.
