A new roundabout capacity model based on gap-acceptance theory was developed for Swedish roundabouts. Measurements were obtained for 15 roundabout entries. Critical gaps were found to depend on the length and width of the weaving section and on whether the entry lane was situated to the left or to the right. Conversely, no dependence on the geometry was found for the follow-up times. An M3 distribution was found to fit the major headway data well. The capacity predicted by the model was lower than that predicted by the current Swedish roundabout capacity model, CAPCAL2, when speed was limited to 50 kph (31 mi/h) and higher when speed was limited to 70 kph (43.5 mi/h).
