Samenvatting

The objective of this paper is to evaluate available technologies for the automatic identification of transport units, packages and goods and consider possibilities to integrate different technologies into working systems. RFID, GPS, GSM and Bluetooth are emerging technologies. The piloted RFID techniques for transport units worked almost faultlessly in the Finnish harbor pilot. In parceled goods identification such as food logistics electronic automatic identification should start from and be interoperable with existing operations. Lacking interoperability, different technology base, missing software and standards are the main barriers in the development.
