Samenvatting

An enormous amount of intelligent solutions are being created with "Intelligent Transport Systems". Very little, though, with what may be the most obvious to arrive at the magic formula of "more mobility and less traffic". Yet, there is one such measure: to convert solo-drivers into car-poolers. Obviously, ITS will not do the trick on its own. But when other decisive elements are cleverly integrated - communications, safety, e-payment - a new type of "public transport system" could result. The presentation summarises some of the ingredients that have to go into a rejuvenated successful carpooling operation. Remember: more passengers are being transported in cars - (not counting the drivers!) - than by "traditional" public transport. The possibility of creating a new type of public transport by converting some private cars is considered.
