Samenvatting

This project provides information on norms and attitudes related to alcohol use and driving. This volume contains a review and analysis of the literature pertaining to attitude formation and change, attitudes towards alcohol use/abuse, attitudes associated with drinking and driving and primary prevention approaches for reducing drinking and driving. Recommendations included the following: a national survey on attitudes towards drinking and driving should be conducted to identify and assess peoples' attitudes towards drinking and driving; alcohol education programs should be studied to determine whether they can provide an effective means for impacting on the drinking driving behavior of students; and a three-year pilot program should be conducted on community-based prevention of drinking and driving. Information on the other aspects of the project can be found in other volumes of this report as follows: Volume II--Meta-analysis of Primary Prevention Studies; Volume III--Report of Individual Interviews; Volume IV--Report of Focus Groups and a booklet entitled "Suggestions for Developing Prevention Programs to Reduce the Incidence of Alcohol-Impaired Driving.".
