This paper presents the results of the final stage of the `cohort study' of novice drivers which examined their performance in the driving test and during the following 3 years. The analyses summarised here examine a) whether there are any statistical associations between the accident liability of drivers in their first 3 years of driving and aspects of the way they learned to drive; b) for drivers who have passed the test, to determine whether the errors recorded by examiners are predictive of their subsequent accident liability; and c) to determine whether there are any statistical associations between the accident liability of drivers, the drivers' assessment of their own driving abilities, their self reported behaviour and their personal driving style.
