Samenvatting

A nuclear method for determining the cement content, water content, and the mass ratio of water to cement of plastic (fresh) concrete and the apparatus involved in this determination are presented. This self-contained, portable device determines cement content through the principle of photoelectric absorption and water content through the principle of neutron thermalization; the quotient of these two quantities is the water/cement value. The water/cement value of a mix is a useful indicator of the compressive strength, permeability, and durability of the concrete. (A)
