Samenvatting

Among the many studies on railroad level crossing accidents and the effects of protective devices few investigations have attempted to come to an understanding of the causation of such traffic accidents. This study is a further attempt. Approach speeds and speed change profiles of vans, cars and heavy trucks were obtained at six different crossings at various times of day. An outline for a modified warning system is presented.
