Samenvatting

The aim of this study was to gain more knowledge of the attitudes toward and user needs of in-car information systems among older car drivers. A questionnaire was sent to a sample of 1058 older (65 years or more) and 520 younger car owners (30-45 years) in the city of Gothenburg/Sweden. The sample was asked questions about their driving habits, perception of potentially stressful traffic situations, and attitudes toward 15 in-car information systems (intelligent transportation systems, ITS). The main finding of the study was that both older and younger drivers reported highly positive attitudes to many of these systems, although older drivers reported significantly more positive attitudes, compared to younger drivers, toward a majority of the systems. These results indicate that the in-car information systems of the near future may well be received by older as well as younger drivers. (A)
