Samenvatting

On the basis of established theories, the paper shows that it is through attitudes and behaviour that older drivers demonstrate that their perception of risk is high, and also shows that physiological, psychological, and sociological factors contribute to their feelings of self- efficacy, because of deprecating circumstances the older driver may develop compensatory attitudes and behaviour patterns; some of which are positive and contribute to safety while others are negative and promote unsafe practices.
