Samenvatting

For the regional public transport policy of the Dutch province of Gelderland, TNO Inro has designed and evaluated several network layouts for costs and benefits. For the network design, a design method for (inter)regional public transport was used, that was previously developed by TNO Inro (See ITRD 888702). For the evaluation of the network layouts a calculation method was developed. The designs are characterized by a build-up in functionally cohesive systems: the national system, the regional express system and the regional distributing system. For the regional express network a number of layouts were made, that are characterized through adjustment to network links, frequencies, speeds and the opening of or not opening of new stations. From the results it is shown that approximately half of the travelled kilometres are made on the main rail network. This network is therefore crucial for the quality of regional public transport. The regional distributing network takes approximately 15% of the trip kilometres for its account, while this network contains 35 tot 50% of the transport vehicles used. Speed acceleration leads to more travellers as well as lower costs, this is therefore very favourable for cost effectiveness. (A)
