Via a consideration of the development of traffic safety in the last few decades, an overview is given of possible future measures and future research, on the basis of an analysis of the current lack of traffic safety and future developments. The development of traffic safety has been placed against the background of societal developments and the growth of mobility in the past and the expectations about these aspects for the future. After all, traffic safety is influenced by measures and developments in many areas of which mobility is considered as the most important one. In the analysis of traffic safety, a distinction has been made into vehicle type, and next into road type and road user.
