Samenvatting

This paper was presented at the `Value-Added Pavement Design and Performance' session. The original OPAC Pavement design System was developed in Ontario in the early 1970's. Among its key features were performance prediction models which separated load and environment associated deterioration, and a life-cycle based economic evaluation subsystem. However, it was also quite limited in terms of not incorporating rehabilitation and rigid pavement design, reliability analysis, user friendliness of the computer package, etc. The new OPAC 2000 Pavement Design System, developed under contract with the University of Waterloo and Pavement Management Systems Limited, retains the philosophy of the old OPAC in terms of the separated performance models and life-cycle economic evaluation, but it is completely new in terms of models and much expanded scope. This paper describes the framework of OPAC 2000 and the major models and subsystems. As well, it shows how the system is generic and/or can be recalibrateed for other regions or agencies. Finally, it provides design examples. (A)
