Samenvatting
The requirements regarding public lighting in residential areas are dealt with. Traffic safety for pedestrians and cyclists is more important here than traffic safety for motorized traffic. A horizontal illuminance of 3- 5 lux is required. In residential areas public security is also an important issue. Investigations by Caminada and Van Bommel in 1980 in this field are summarized and subsequent studies by other authors are reviewed.
