Samenvatting

After discussing the nature of traffic operations at freeway lane drop locations, several design principles that should be considered when such sites are constructed or reconstructed are presented. These principles include visibility, location, taper and escape lane characteristics, and traffic control device requirements. A before and after case study is used to show application of the principles in evaluating control device changes.
