Samenvatting

Some collection-distribution networks are characterized by a main "stem" and branching "twigs" e.g., a major interurban highway connected to intermediate towns by secondary roads, or a central sewage collector connected to houses by small diameter pipes. The optimal form and location of two Specific networks of this class is sought. In the first stage, the properties of the optimal network are investigated. In the second stage, the properties of the optimal network defined earlier and utilized to actually construct an optimal collection-distribution system.
