Optimising urban freight traffic: the (im)possibilities of freight routes Urban freight traffic finds itself in a difficult situation in many cities. Policies aimed at a reduction of negative externalities (livability, safety, air quality), road design, the stimulation of public transport and some trends in freight transport reduce accessibility of freight vehicles. This paper, partially based on ongoing research, looks at the pros and cons of freight routes in cities as a means to improve accessibility for (inner)city distribution. It ends with policy recommendations. (Author/publisher)
