An optimization model for transportation planning.

This paper presents one possible linear programming approach to the problem of transportation equipment assignment or scheduling over a specific geographic network. Such a frame work is relevant in evaluating alternative plans for regional or even national transportation development. The example of an air network is user: direct operating costs are minimized, sub, subject to constainst relating to. 1- equipment balance at each node. 2- equipment availability by type, throughout the system and 3- passenger demand for specific routes.
