For the past ten years, various comprehensive conservation models have been developed and implemented as contracted out by different Highway Managements in Spain. These models vary according to management, whereas others have evolved very positively over time, especialy The Ministry of Public Works General Highway Directorate models, to such an extent that they have become practically the ony conservation management models in Europe. Only Great Britain and Sweden have situations that are somewhat similar to those of Spain. This presentation develops such models, why they evolved and the experience of their application from the point of view of the General Directorate of Highways and Elsamex, Administration, and Services and Conservation Management that have experienced such comprehensive systems from their inception.
