This recommendation was issued by the Dutch Advisory Council for Transport, Public Works and Watermanagement ('Raad voor Verkeer en Waterstaat') to the Dutch Minister of Transport, Public Works and Watermanagement. The recommendation indicates which roles the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Watermanagement has to play to pursue an effective technology policy. The role in the process of technology development and technology implementation depends on the specific problem area and of the phase of technology development; is it a first suggestion or is it on the verge of a large-scale introduction? The Council illustrates this role on the basis of the mobility issue. For the interpretation of the role of the Ministry it is also important that some technological innovations require coordination at the European Union (EU) and international level, whereas other ones can also be achieved at a national level.
