It is concluded from the study that no permanent hearing damage, eardrum perforation, or disruption of ossicles occurred at airbag velocities up to 100 mph. and sound intensity levels of 150 dB. On the basis of this study, slight temporary hearing impairment in humans might be expected from the airbag slap. However, no risk to permanent hearing or to the middle-ear structures themselves can be seen.
