Contemporary methods to model accessibility tend to place emphasis on the destination end of trips. In this paper, the foundation of a new model is constructed which incorporates the origin of trips as well. Moreover, it deals with the question for whom one wants to be accessible. The emphasis lays on accessibility by public transport, although other modes of transport are not excluded. A so-called accessibility diagram expresses the relation between the average travel speed and the travel distance of a specific user group. With the use of a limited number of indicators the diagram drafts an accessibility profile of any possible destination (considering all relevant origins). The model has many applications, varying from spatial planning to policy development and mobility management. The accessibility diagram is unpersonal, yet individuals are taken into account. The diagram explores the situation of specific stakeholders, but remains objective. It exclusively reflects the actual situation and leave the judgement to external observers.
