AN OVERALL VIEW OF TRAFFIC SAFETY IN ARGENTINA.

Samenvatting

In Argentina, there were 7,200 deaths and more than 100,000 injuries resulting from road accidents in 1991/92. The death rate is five to six times higher than that of developed countries. The main causes in the author's view are: lack of government interest in road safety issues; low public awareness; low levels of seat belt wearing; speeding; little effort to educate drivers and ineffectual highway planning and traffic control.
