Samenvatting
Inaugural lecture about industrial design, stressing the interdependence of product, designer and consumer. Primary and secondary functionality of products (the technical product as extension of human possibilities, and the semantic and social contexts, of which the latter are the more important). The designer takes a central place in the range between conception to distribution, between producer and consumer. A research plan for teaching is needed on the man-product relations.
