There is an ongoing trend to examine how urban form and land use patterns impact upon travel The research evidence on travel effects clearly shows that land use factors can have significant impacts on the individuals travel choices. This paper aims to review and evaluate much of the present literature on the land use-travel behaviour connections in Australia and other countries, which can serve as an aid to those who wish to undertake a regional study in this area. The critique of these studies has suggested that a number of issues must be taken into account when drawing any conclusions for policy. These issues include the strength of the evidence, the transferability of findings (whether findings in one country apply to another for example), the scale of analysis (regional, urban or neighbourhood and so on) and the causality of relationships.
