Samenvatting

The nature and severity of bicycle accidents and the efficacy of possible countermeasures to reduce bicycle accident losses are examined. Statistics are given on contributing factors and bicyclist injuries. It is suggested that countermeasures directed at accident prevention have the greatest likelihood of success, including pre-crash programs aimed at the cyclist, his bicycle, and the riding environment.
