The objective of this paper is to briefly review research work on road traffic trauma (RTT) in China. The method used was to collect and review representative papers published in the Chinese journals or presented at the national conferences on trauma. Results show that (1) 6% to 8% of the drivers were prone to traffic accidents. (2) Road traffic accidents (RTA) exceed any other lethal causes and take first place for work years of potential life lost (WYPLL). (3) Experiments show that the incidence of compression distortion of the abdomen was related to the impact velocity, while the degree of compression was related to the impact mass. (4) The impact velocity was an important determinant of the injury severity. (5) Features of some types of RTT (motorcycle injury, bicycle injury and tractor injury) were summarized. (6) Some researches on basic and clinical medical sciences (hemorrhagic shock, MODS, craniocerebral impact injury, multiple bone fracture, calf osseous fascial syndrome, risk factors of abdominal RTT, etc) were presented and discussed. It is concluded that RTA is a world-wide challenge. RTT research should be strengthened. (Author/publisher).
