The traffic safety department of the dutch ministry of transport co-ordinates the traffic safety policy between the other ministries, the provinces and the local authorities. For this co-ordination the transfer of science and money is needed. But for the co-ordination to be effective then the co-ordination point must be a central point where experience and data can be exchanged. To illustrate this policy some demonstration projects for pedestrian safety such as traffic education, reconstruction of town centres and residential areas, the construction of cycle tracks and the journey to school are discussed. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD abstract no 247824.
