The problem was considered of identifying the social and environmental goals that a transit system such as BART might be expected to satisfy. Goals differed according to different interest in the Bay Area and behind the BART system was a complex network of complementary and conflicting social, economic and ecological goals and values. A table presented suggested research topics that were discussed.
