Samenvatting

In the survey on parking and traffic safety in The Netherlands (see IRRD 805473) an analysis was made of the traffic accidents in The Hague during 1983. This more detailed analysis was carried out by adding seven road traffic and environment characteristics to the accident data. In this way it was possible to get a better insight into circumstances in which accidents with parked cars can occur. The seven characteristics are (1) parking angle (2) land use (3) location of parking place (4) kind of parking place (5) 24 hour intensity (6) number of driving directions per traffic lane and (7) the width of the traffic lanes. Of those seven characteristics only one, the number of driving directions per traffic lane, has no bearing on the number or outcome of the parking accidents. The influence of speed on the outcome of the accident is mainly justified by an analysis of the width of the traffic lane and the 24 hour intensity. The land use along the road shows many parking accidents when shops are located along the road. The big number of parking accidents in and around the town centre of The Hague is significant, while in the also heavily populated new residential areas very few parking accidents occur. For the other reports of the survey see B 25814, B 25815 and B 25817.
