Without careful planning and controls, parking requirements in older areas near city centres will further intensify. Parking space, road capacity, service levels of public transit and park- and- ride systems must be strategically employed to control city traffic. The methodology of balancing parking space is illustrated by the area- wide concept in the city of Frankfurt.
