Samenvatting

Dutch roads are becoming more and more crowded by the day. With more people on the same road network, and an increasing proportion of older drivers, the assessment of driving ability is becoming increasingly important. Older drivers are more likely to suffer from neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer?s disease and Parkinson?s disease (PD) than are their younger counterparts. Special attention to driving ability examination in older people is important; in patients with neurodegenerative disorders it is crucial. These disorders and their associated impairments have significant consequences for the safety of driving. This paper outlines an attempt to generate a test battery on the basis of existing literature that can predict driving ability in PD patients. This method can serve as an example of how driving assessment in other neurodegenerative disorders could be approached. (Author/publisher)
