Samenvatting

The transportation planning process has been challenged by the politicization of the planning process. The history of the response to this challenge is outlined. The most recent response is the broadly based Boston Transportation Planning Review (BTPR), which has given equal attention to highway and transit and internal and external effects of transportation, while de-emphasizing investment in sophisticated transportation land use techniques in favour of balance among a broad range of competing issues.
