Samenvatting

A number of police accident report files maintained at HSRI were examined in order to observe patterns in children's seating locations. A bi-level analysis of police and in-depth accident reports suggests that rear-seated children are less likely to be injured than front-seated children. However, given an injury, the children in the rear seat sustained more severs or fatal injuries than did those in the front seat (crash severity was not controlled).
